More Schools to Serve More Students

Harmony's reputation for quality learning and college preparatory success continues to grow and so has the demand for more Harmony schools. To meet this demand, Harmony plans to expand its network to serve 24,000 students in 35 schools across Texas by 2012.

By 2012, Harmony will have had 3,000 graduates, and by 2017, an estimated 28,000 students will be enrolled in a Harmony school. But no matter how much we grow, our values for quality education will never change. Central to our growth plan is the vision of continuing to serve more students while diligently maintaining the highest educational outcomes.

Best in Class

Harmony is “best in class” in its ability to reach financial sustainability at both the school and network level. To date, Harmony has developed a lean financial engine with tight fiscal management, resulting in financially sustainable schools.

A financially sustainable school model
A Harmony school breaks even financially in its fourth year of operation. This is because our major cost-management strategies include:

  • Optimizing personnel costs by hiring multi-functional teachers and maintaining a lean nonteaching support staff.
  • Tightly managing the selection of our facilities.
  • Tightly managing our operating expenses by centralizing purchasing and leasing agreements.
A tightly managed network
Harmony tightly manages the financial health of their network by diligently focusing on three areas:
  • Tightly managed expenses at the school level, particularly in regards to personnel, operational costs and facility expenses.
  • Maintaining low overhead in our central/cluster office as a result of a our distributed leadership model.
  • Tightly managed and monitored working capital processes.

A highly leveraged investment opportunity
Harmony’s projected funding gap is $39 million over the next three years. After the three year period, Harmony will no longer require additional funding from private sources.

Harmony’s relatively low fundraising needs, coupled with its goal of financial sustainability by year four, underscores its ability to use investment capital efficiently.  It is this that distinguishes our schools from other charter school operators.
