Grow Your Own Teacher
The Grow Your Own Teacher (GYOT) Program is an innovative homegrown talent pipeline program developed by Harmony Public Schools to prepare and support future educators from the HPS and HPS Partner Schools alumni community.
GYOT provides financial support, mentorship, and hands-on experience for HPS graduates who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree leading to teacher certification.

🛤️ Program Pathway
Step 1: Express Interest
Candidates complete the GYOT Interest Form.
Step 2: GYOT Interest Follow Up
District GYOT managers reach out interested candidates to get to know and review program expectations.
Step 3: College Enrollment
Graduates enroll in any Texas higher education institutions that offer bachelor’s degrees.
Step 4: Apply for GYOT Position
Students officially apply through Harmony’s job application portal after college enrollment.
Step 5: Interview & Selection
Qualified applicants are interviewed and selected as GYOT Residents.
Step 6: Work & Grow
Residents work part-time at Harmony while completing their bachelor degrees.
Step 7: Become a Harmony Educator
Upon graduation, residents start their two years of service commitment in full-time teaching roles.

- Maintain required min 2.50 GPA and full time (Min 12 credit hours) enrollment status
- Work assigned hours professionally and consistently
- Stay on track to finish your bachelor’s degree in six years
