Workers' Compensation

Workers' Compensation Information for HPS Employees

Introduction

Welcome to the HPS Workers' Compensation Information page. This resource is designed to provide you with essential information about workers' compensation, the claims process, and your rights and responsibilities if you suffer a work-related illness or are injured on the job.

What is Workers' Compensation?

Workers' compensation is a state-regulated insurance program that provides benefits to employees who suffer job-related injuries or illnesses.

Harmony Public Schools provides workers’ compensation benefits to employees who suffer a work-related illness or are injured on the job. If eligible, Workers’ Compensation helps pay for medical treatment and makes up for part of the income lost while recovering.  If you are injured at work or suffer a work-related illness, it is our top priority to make sure you receive the care you need. To ensure your case is properly processed, please report any on the job injury or illness IMMEDIATELY to your campus principal/admin team.

Eligibility

All HPS employees are covered under the workers' compensation program from their first day of employment. This coverage includes full-time and part-time employees as well as substitute teachers.

Reporting an Injury

  1. Report any work-related injury or illness to your supervisor immediately (within 24 hours).
  2. Your Supervisor will inform the HR Manager for your district and they will open a claim with Texas Mutual, our Workers’ Compensation Insurance Carrier.
  3. You will be asked to complete a Staff Incident Report form and be provided with a Notice of Network Requirements, which you will be asked to sign as well.  This notice will provide you with information on locating a physician in our Workers’ Compensation health care network who specializes in Workers' Compensation care.

Seek Medical Attention

Obtain medical treatment as soon as possible. For emergencies, go to the nearest emergency room. For non-life-threatening injuries, you must get treatment from a network provider.

For your convenience, a list of network providers as well as other informative resources can be found here on the Texas Mutual Just for Injured Workers Website.
