Their closing line says it best:

"This is the place where I grow, learn to share, be kind, be strong, work as a team, respect each other and explore.”

'Why Do I Have To Go To School?' by Bianca E., Harmony School of Science-San Antonio

Bianca’s essay highlights something we often forget: the internal world of a child is rich with hopes, doubts, and dreams in the making. Her creative use of narrative—combining realism with a motivational twist—underscores how self-belief, encouragement from teachers, and a strong educational environment can transform reluctance into purpose.

She closes her story with newfound clarity and motivation:

"I am still an 11-year-old but now I want to be in class to learn and prepare myself to be successful in life.”

It’s a powerful message for students and adults alike: sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective to see the bigger picture of why learning matters.

With sincerity and simplicity, the student beautifully captures the essence of what makes educators so impactful—not just for the lessons they teach, but for the care, calm, and compassion they bring to every moment in the classroom.

'If the School Could Tell a Story' by Sami Baran Joseph S., Harmony School of Excellence-Houston

The lines:

“They believe in us and help us try, / To do our best and always aim high” capture the core mission of Harmony—to uplift and empower students every day.

'If you could hear my thoughts.' by Ellie T., Harmony School of Excellence-Houston

This essay encapsulates the heart of what Harmony stands for: providing a safe, caring, and inclusive environment where every child—no matter their past—has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. It shows how Harmony's nurturing culture and meaningful relationships break barriers and build self-belief.

The final line speaks volumes:

Harmony has been the best choice I’ve ever made, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

2nd Place:

'If These Walls Could Talk' by Zayne O., Harmony School of Science-San Antonio

Each paragraph builds on the last, creating a picture of a student who has grown in courage, curiosity, and compassion—all within the walls of Harmony.

From the very first line, the student’s voice is rich with emotion and detail:

“If these walls could talk, they would tell you a story about a 4th grade boy coming to a brand new school.”

This sets the tone for a deeply personal story that resonates with any student who’s ever felt nervous on the first day but found confidence, connection, and passion along the way.

The essay ends full circle, as the student looks ahead with excitement to the opening of the new middle/high school campus:

“This time it will be all too familiar and I won’t be so scared!

It’s a powerful reminder that the foundation of confidence is experience—and Harmony provided it in abundance.

3rd Place:

'If Walls Could Talk' by Tiana O., Harmony Science Academy-Pfluegerville

This reflective piece takes the familiar phrase “if walls could talk” and turns it into a poetic journey through time. The opening line adds a playful, grounded touch:

“They would probably say something a kid said in the 90s.”

This hint of humor immediately sets a conversational tone—inviting readers to imagine the walls as keepers of both wisdom and wit.

9th Grade - 12th Grade

1st Place:

'The Teacher Who Changed My Life' by Julio H., Harmony School of Innovation-Brownsville

In this heartfelt piece, a Harmony student recounts how one teacher, Mr. Bolivar, became a turning point in their life—not through grand gestures, but by offering something far more profound: understanding. The essay moves beyond surface-level praise to explore what it truly means to be seen and supported as a whole person.

With lines like “He didn’t just solve for x; he solved for me,” the writer poetically captures how Mr. Bolivar helped redefine success—not as a set of equations or safe choices, but as a path rooted in passion and self-belief. The essay resonates with a theme many of our students know well: the tension between dreams and expectations, especially for those navigating cultural, societal, or economic barriers.

But what makes this piece especially powerful is its vulnerability. The student reflects on their own arrogance as a defense mechanism and honors Mr. Bolivar not just for teaching math, but for gently dismantling the fear behind their ambition. In doing so, the teacher helped turn a career once chosen for “safety” into a calling embraced with pride.

2nd Place:

'My Harmony, My community' by Francheska Andrea R., Harmony School of Endeavor-Austin

This narrative speaks to the core mission of Harmony Public Schools: to create a space where students from all backgrounds feel supported, seen, and empowered. Especially for newcomers, immigrants, and those experiencing cultural shifts, this essay beautifully illustrates how Harmony builds bridges—not just to academic success, but to human connection.

It also carries a timeless message: “In losing something, I gained something that’ll stay close to my heart.”

Through hardship, the student found community, and that emotional truth is what makes this story resonate so deeply.

3rd Place:

'Where Curiosity Blooms' by Edward S., Harmony School of Science-El Paso (High)

This poem is a stunningly crafted and emotionally resonant tribute to the transformative experience of being a student at Harmony Public Schools.
