When I look back on my 13-year journey as a Harmony Educator, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given—both professionally and personally. The training, experience, and networking I’ve received over the years have been unparalleled, and as I reflect on this time, I realize just how much it has shaped my career. The resume I’ve built as an educator is immeasurable, and I have had the privilege of seeing different campuses, cities, grade levels, and roles within Harmony Public Schools. In my experience, I don’t think anyone does it better when it comes to supporting their staff and fostering growth.

As a charter school organization, Harmony Public Schools has always kept its employees at the forefront. The opportunities provided to me would not have come as quickly or been as fruitful in any other organization. I’ve been given the chance to step into various roles and grow in ways I could have never anticipated. Whether it’s moving between campuses or cities, or transitioning from one grade level to another, each experience has contributed to making me a better educator.

But it’s not just the variety of roles that have been so enriching—it’s the way the organization fosters an environment of growth and continuous learning. Every year, Harmony’s summer leadership gatherings offer more than just training—they offer invaluable networking opportunities. I’ve learned that the true value of these gatherings lies not just in the content we receive, but in the chance to learn from our colleagues. Being able to exchange ideas and experiences with educators from all over has broadened my perspective and made me more effective in my role.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my time with Harmony has been the relationships I’ve built along the way. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with incredible educators, many of whom have become lifelong colleagues and friends. These relationships have been one of the cornerstones of my professional development. I recall an instance where I hired an English teacher in El Paso at Harmony Science Academy. Fast forward to today, and she is now the District Secondary English Instructional Coach. The pride and joy I felt when I saw her again after nine years—knowing that she had been Teacher of the Year and had grown into such a leadership role—was indescribable. It’s a testament to the power of mentorship and the lasting impact that Harmony educators have on each other’s careers.

As I reflect on my career with Harmony, I realize that the greatest gift I will leave behind when I retire isn’t just the lessons I’ve taught or the skills I’ve developed, but the relationships I’ve built along the way. It’s these connections that will continue to empower and inspire future generations of educators. The opportunity to build and cultivate these relationships is something that every educator within Harmony should cherish, as it is one of the most powerful ways to make a lasting impact on their careers and the lives of students.
