Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner Mike Morath toured Harmony Science Academy–Katy Elementary and Middle school today in celebration of being named one of the inaugural Lone Star Ribbon Schools for 2025. The Lone Star Ribbon program, established by Gov. Greg Abbott, honors public schools that demonstrate outstanding academic performance and meaningful progress in closing achievement gaps.

During his visit, Commissioner Morath toured classrooms, engaged directly with students and teachers, and met with campus leaders to discuss the strategies that led to the school’s selection.

"The Lone Star Ribbon is a declaration to the world that excellence is happening here," said Commissioner Morath.

The session underscored the campus’s commitment to excellence in both academics and equity—criteria central to the Lone Star Ribbon honor.

“This was an amazing visit to see a team of skilled practitioners constantly reflecting, iterating, creating a learn environment to mold eager young minds, to help kids become the best versions of themselves--in academics, in art and character, he said. "It's a very intentional approach and the proof is in the pudding.”

Joining Commissioner Morath today was Harmony Public Schools CEO Fatih Ay.

“We are deeply honored by Commissioner Morath’s visit and grateful for his recognition of the hard work our teachers and students put in every day,” said Ay. “This acknowledgment affirms that when a school community comes together around shared purpose, extraordinary learning can happen.”

Two other Harmony schools--Harmony Science Academy-Euless and Harmony Science Academy-Sugar Land--also earned a place on the inaugural list of Lone Star Ribbon schools. This recognition reflects the broader excellence of the Harmony system, which continues to deliver cutting-edge STEM instruction, foster student leadership, and demonstrate outstanding outcomes across its Texas campuses. The Commissioner’s visit highlights Harmony’s dedication to providing high-quality education and preparing students for success in college, career, and life.

Harmony's curriculum places a heavy focus on STEM skills, Character Education, project-based learning and college readiness. The system has a 98 percent graduation rate for its high school seniors, and 100 percent college acceptance rate among its graduating seniors.

Harmony Public Schools is currently accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year for students and team members.
