Harmony Public Schools Parent Honored With 2026 Heroes for Children Award

Dr. Amirah Rimal, PTO president and Parent of the Year at Harmony School of Excellence–Sugar Land Elementary, earns one of Texas' highest honors for parent volunteers.

At Harmony Public Schools, strong partnerships between families and schools help students thrive. That spirit of service is being celebrated as Dr. Amirah Rimal, a parent at Harmony School of Excellence–Sugar Land Elementary, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Heroes for Children Award.

Rimal is one of only 15 recipients across Texas to receive the prestigious honor, representing State Board of Education District 7. The award recognizes parents and community members whose leadership, volunteerism and dedication make a lasting impact on public education.

Her commitment to the Harmony community extends far beyond volunteering. Rimal was named Harmony School of Excellence–Sugar Land Elementary's 2025-26 Parent of the Year and currently serves as the school's PTO president. Through her leadership, she has supported school initiatives, strengthened family engagement and helped create meaningful opportunities for students and staff.

"This award is not just a personal honor; it reflects the dedication of an entire school community that believes in lifting one another up," Rimal said. "I hope this recognition encourages more parents and community members to get involved, because even the smallest act of service can make a meaningful difference in a child's life."

Rimal and the other 14 Heroes for Children Award recipients will be recognized during the State Board of Education's general meeting Sept. 4, 2026, in Austin.
