Harmony School of Innovation, located on the Northeast Side of San Antonio, advanced to the 2026 South Central Aerial Drone Middle School Championship scheduled for May 8 in El Paso after a strong performance at an aerial drone competition.
Team 9731B, the Dungeon and Dragon Fliers, competed against 36 teams from across the region and captured the Team Mission Championship Award for precision, strategy and excellence in completing mission-based flight challenges.
The team includes John H., a ninth-grade student; Jayden A., a sixth-grade student; Anjali G., a sixth-grade student; and Aisha O., a sixth-grade student. The students demonstrated technical skill and teamwork throughout the competition.
Teacher and club sponsor Foxx Martinez said, “Our drone team’s advancement represents more than technical ability; it highlights their critical thinking, resilience and emerging leadership in STEM.”
Student Aisha O. said, “Always trust your team. I was nervous at first, but after we finished our first round, my confidence kept growing. I’m excited for the next competition and ready to give it our best.”
Harmony School of Innovation is the only Harmony campus in its district to qualify for the championship, making the achievement a significant point of pride for students, families and staff. The accomplishment reflects the school’s focus on STEM education and hands-on project-based learning opportunities that challenge students to think critically and work collaboratively.
The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation’s Aerial Drone Competition provides a hands-on learning experience that fosters STEM skills including drone piloting, programming and problem-solving.
