Over the summer, Sarah, a student at Harmony Science Academy-San Antonio, received a life-changing surprise: a $40,000 BigFuture® Scholarship from the College Board.

Only two students across the United States are selected for this prestigious award each month, making Sarah’s recognition an extraordinary achievement. Representatives from the College Board visited the campus in June to present the scholarship during a surprise event attended by Sarah’s family, classmates and school leaders.

“We are incredibly proud of Sarah for earning this prestigious scholarship,” said Aaron Gecit, Harmony’s College and Career Assistant Superintendent. “Her dedication to her goals and willingness to take proactive steps toward her future represent exactly what we aim to instill in all our students.”

The scholarship is part of the College Board’s BigFuture program, which has awarded more than $24 million in scholarships to over 24,000 students since its launch in 2019. The initiative helps students prepare for college and career success by encouraging them to complete simple planning steps—such as building a college list or applying for financial aid—without requiring test scores, essays or a minimum GPA.

In addition to the $40,000 awards, the program also awards hundreds of $500 scholarships monthly to students who complete similar milestones.

Sarah is a member of the Class of 2027 and has demonstrated a strong commitment to her education and future goals. Her recognition reflects both her individual efforts and the supportive learning environment at Harmony Science Academy-San Antonio.

The school is an A-rated campus and was recently named a State School of Character. It is consistently ranked among the Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report.
